Task 2: Composition

We were tasked with making a background and placing our Vormator character into it as well as putting both of those into a Pokemon card.

1. References/Moodboard

Since my character was based off gnomes, I wanted to be consistent with my theme. Thus, I searched up reference pictures on Pinterest and picked colours accordingly to how a gnome-vibe would be like.

I had an idea of making my character stand in a forest with light shining on it, following the framed ink composition reference.

2. Rationale

'Gnomer', the name of my character takes inspiration from a mythical creature species called gnomes. He was born and raised in the forest and has never step foot out of it.

The gnome culture is to build houses made of things from the forest and he chose mushrooms as they're easy to find and deal with. Gnomer has always been one of the best at finding resources and using them, helping his community.

4. Final

Since Gnomer's story is heavily related to the forest, I decided to make him a grass-type Pokemon with abilities that relate to his character.

For example, his special ability 'Forest Fetcher' allows him to use nature-related power boosting items often since he's known for being resourceful.

Reflection

I loved watching Pokemon as a kid so this exercise was quite fun and brought back a lot of old memories. Although I'm not that skilled in creating backgrounds and still struggle with using Illustrator, it was a good learning experience overall.
